The outstanding aromatic qualities of Sauvignon make it one of the most popular grape varieties in the world.<\/p>\r\n

The best Sauvignon Blancs in the world met in Brussels to show which of them won the gold and silver medals in this category. There was an unprecedented number of awards for \u00abQaked Sauvignons\u00bb..<\/p>\r\n

Am \u00abConcours Mondial du Sauvignon 2022\u00bb<\/strong> – the largest and most important international competition dedicated exclusively to the Sauvignon grape variety – 1,120 wines from 23 producing countries took part. In addition to the gold and silver medals, the \u00abConcours Mondial du Sauvignon\u00bb<\/strong> special trophies to the participants who achieved the highest score in special categories such as Sauvignon Blend, Oaked Sauvignon, Sweet Sauvignon and Best Sauvignon in the Competition.<\/p>\r\n

This year, an unprecedented number of wines with oak barrels were entered into the competition – 225 or one fifth of all wines entered.<\/strong> Most of the Sauvignon wines with oak barrels came from Styria and Bordeaux. And they did very well: 35% of them received medals.<\/p>\r\n

In 2022, the first five countries by number of medals are France, Austria, Italy, South Africa and the Czech Republic.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

The region with the most awards this year is the Loire Valley with 100 medals. Styria is in second place with 71 awards, and Friuli and Bordeaux share third place with 22 medals each.
Within the Loire Valley, the leading appellations are Touraine (34), Sancerre (23) and Pouilly Fum\u00e9 (12). Touraine Chenonceaux did particularly well: 63 % of the wines submitted from this appellation were awarded prizes. The Denis Dubourdieu Trophy 2022 for the best Sauvignon of the competition was also awarded to a wine from Touraine Chenonceaux – the Domaine Jean Christophe Mandard Blanc 2020.<\/p>\r\n
