The founders of Damascene were united by three passions: the pursuit of excellence, the spirit of discovery and the desire to preserve nature through sustainable agriculture.<\/h3>\n

\u00abLess Cult, More Cultivation\u00bb \u2013 is the slogan of the still young winery from Elgin. The name Damascene means something like a unique, transformative moment. A merging and uniting. A special experience that changes one’s perspective. It’s about seeking out special vineyards and sites that express the incredible diversity of character of the different terroirs around the Western Cape. Each wine is a tribute to the place where it grows. Jean Smit is on a mission to seek out and discover the best plots for his wines. Accordingly, a terroir-specific variety is bottled, especially in the Syrahs. In terms of grape varieties, Damascene Moment extends to Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.<\/p>\n

The project is a partnership between respected Cape winemaker Jean Smit and David Curl, former owner of Ch\u00e2teau Gaby in Canon-Fronsac, Bordeaux, and now proud owner of Moya Meaker in Elgin. With their first bottling in 2019, they have caused quite a stir and received much praise both locally and internationally. Respected critics hailed the individual pressings as \u00aba perfect collection of wines\u00bb and \u00abone of the most exciting South African releases in a decade\u00bb.<\/p>\n

All wines come from low yields, are spontaneously fermented and are not fined. The bottles are individually numbered and only a few thousand are pressed per wine.<\/p>\n

All Damascene wines have just been rated a very high 93 to 98 points by Tim Atkin. Merge with the Damascene wine world and order the red wine tasting package at a special price.<\/p>\n
