The Story & Vision Behind the Wine Babel

In 2011, the cellar team had an idea: to create a red wine that captures the essence of Babylonstoren in a single bottle – honest, full of character, and with depth. This gave rise to Babel, named after the estate’s restaurant and inspired by the diversity that defines the farm.

Strength in Diversity

The wine Babel unites seven grape varieties: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Pinotage. Each component is harvested, vinified, and tasted separately before finding its place in the final blend. The result: over 100 individual vineyard parcels harmoniously expressed in a single wine – precise, balanced, and full of character. This diversity is the heart of Babel – a composition of varieties, soils, and vintages, reimagined every year and unmistakably bearing the Babylonstoren signature.
