We have the latest update from the winery «Ernie Els».

Harvest time usually begins at the moment when the sugar, taste and acidity of the grapes are in perfect harmony. For us, this was the case on 18 February 2022, when we started the harvest season with our Merlot blocks and fortunately had a relatively smooth harvest season from then on.

According to their winemaker Leander Koekemoer the 2022 vintage will definitely be remembered as the year they had a good fruit set.

«More berries per vine means a good balance between reproductive and vegetative growth, and since we only allow a certain tonnage per hectare, we will not overload the leaves. The mild conditions allowed the vines to make up well for the warm days after ripening (when the grapes change colour)», said of Ernie Els Wine.

As Leander says, this pre-harvest warmth is very important for the development of the red grape varieties, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, so that they reach their optimal quality and also maintain our premium consistency.

Their 2022 harvest season is now over and they harvested the last bunches of their Cabernet Sauvignon on 23 March 2022. We from KapWeine can only rejoice at such good news. The wines from «Ernie Els Wine» are prestigious wines that always go well with a meeting.

Bouquet of red berries with classic cigar notes over elegant crushed dried herbs, black cherry and ripe plums. The palate is invitingly fresh with red fruits and an earthy undertow. The tannins are still tight, medium-bodied and express the crystalline character of the 2017 vintage. As the wine evolves in the glass, there is an attractive tension between red and black fruits with hints of liquorice over a linear, concentrated and dry finish.
