New wines arrived
The bird has landed – or the new wines from Eagles Nest have finally arrived at KapWeine! First internal testing shows that the new Topline and the “Little Eagle” line are also outstanding in price-performance! Eagles Nest has recently launched a Top and a Little Eagle line. The latter includes a Red Blend, Merlot and Shiraz, which you must taste.
At the beginning of September 2022, it was also announced that the Eagles Nest wine farm was sold to the German family-owned Elleke Group. This is known in South Africa with the company Elleke Harvest & Hospitality and has been an investor in South Africa for agriculture, thoroughbred horse breeding and hospitality, as well as a property portfolio for the past 20 years. Their latest jewel is now the Eagles Nest wine estate.
The farm was first historically mentioned in 1836. In 1984, the Mylrea family bought the 38ha farm, 11ha of which were planted with vines, and had to replant the vineyards after the big fire in 2000, which had all burnt down completely.
Since 2008, the hands of the young, talented winemaker Stuart Botha have been in charge of “Eagles Nest” wines. He previously worked at Constantia Glen and spent a season at Saint-Emillion. Since 2021, winemaker Craig Barnard has been at work.
The little-used grape varieties Shiraz, Viognier, and Merlot were planted to the surprise of many established farms in Constantia. The cool-climate red wines exude incredible elegance and intensity.

This wine presents itself in a burgundy colour. The nose offers delightful aromas of ripe berry fruit complemented by nuances of dark chocolate, tobacco and subtle spice. The tannins are soft and nicely integrated, balanced by a delicious freshness on the finish.

Soft, well-integrated tannins coat the palate and lead to a distinctive, fresh finish. A truly great wine from maturing vineyards that will age for up to 20 years after harvest.

This wine shows a deep plum colour. The nose is inviting with redcurrant and black cherry combined with subtle spice and vanilla. The palate is a multi-layered of black berry fruit wrapped in soft, rich tannins. Notes of rosemary and olive tapenade add a pleasant herbal freshness. As with all Eagles’ Nest red wines, there is a subtle pepper spice that makes this wine distinctive and proves its cool soil origins.

Careful work in the vineyard and cellar results in a wine with a bright ruby colour, pure, structured fruit and enticingly firm yet flavourful tannins. As with all Eagles’ Nest reds, there is a subtle peppery spice that makes this wine both distinctive. Aromas of mulberry, dark chocolate and tobacco add further complexity. The palate is full and structured, with balanced tannins and a concentrated, lingering mouthfeel.

A Shiraz with cool climate character and bright red colour. On the nose, the distinctive pepper notes are complemented by aromas of perfume and ripe red fruits. In the glass, mineral and earthy notes develop wrapped in spicy, smoky aromas. The palate reveals a wonderful concentration of flavours of pepper, spices and delicious red fruits. Soft, integrated tannins and a full, textured mid palate persist, leading to a long, tasty finish.
