Einer der grössten Weinkritiker der Welt, Tim Atkin, widmet 316 Seiten mit über 95.000 Wörtern einem einzigen Land – Südafrika, einer der aufregendsten Weinnationen der Welt!

Während eines vierwöchigen Besuchs im März, Juni und Juli dieses Jahres durfte Tim Atkin stolze 2’282 Weine von 433 Weingütern verkosten und dabei Tausende von Kilometern quer durch das Westkap von Piekenierskloof bis zum Agulhas-Dreieck zurücklegen. Aber das ist noch nicht alles, denn 195 Weine wurden von ihm mit mehr als 95 Punkten bewertet, was einer Goldmedaille entspricht. Er stellt außerdem fest, dass darunter eine bemerkenswert vielfältige Palette mit mehreren neuen Erzeugern ist.

Tim Atkin berichtet, dass er von der Qualität seiner Verkostung sehr beeindruckt ist. Besonders beeindruckt war er von den Jahrgängen 2017 und 2021. Seiner Meinung nach verdient 2017 seinen Platz als bester Cape-Jahrgang aller Zeiten. Aber sein Bauchgefühl sagt ihm, dass 2021 gleichauf liegt und 2017 übertreffen könnte.

Stellenbosch hat seine Position als herausragende Region am Kap verteidigt, dicht gefolgt von Swartland, das die höchsten Bewertungen von Tim Atkin erhielt. Aber es gibt auch spannende Weine aus allen Ecken Südafrikas, darunter Malgas, Montagu und das Ceres Plateau.
