Wine with Heart
How a wine can improve the world
Rhino Tears is more than a South African wine; it is a wine that helps build a better world from its source to your table.
Rhino Tears is a wine born to be enjoyed and to improve the world we live in. Why? Because every bottle not only helps prevent rhino poaching in South Africa, but by purchasing a bottle of Rhino Tears, you also contribute to the Swiss Board of Aid Charity and SAN (South African National Parks).
Together with the Swiss Board of Aid, KapWeine makes a statement and donates CHF 2 per bottle of wine sold* to the organization. The Swiss Board of Aid was founded in 2012 and is registered in Switzerland as a non-profit association, working to provide all kinds of support (especially to hospitals, clinics, schools, and children), predominantly in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
Wine with History
"Mt Vernon Wine Estate" in Cape Town has developed a range of high-quality yet affordable wines for everyday use.
The Mount Vernon Rhino Tears wine was created through the coming together of three men who are passionate about rhino conservation. John Hooper, managing director of Mount Vernon Wines, met John Turner, chairman of the SANParks Honorary Rangers Conservation Services Unit, and Andre Nel, owner of The Hat & Creek restaurants in Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa. After spending a few days with the rangers at the Kruger Wilderness Experience bush camp, the idea for a wine to raise money for anti-poaching efforts was born.
Rhino poaching has reached a crisis point in South Africa. Despite extensive efforts by teams on the ground, rhino populations continue to decline across the country. Since its launch in late 2014, Rhino Tears has already raised almost 2 million Rand (CHF 110,000.-) for the fight against rhino poaching in South Africa's national parks.

Wine Styles
The Klapmuts region has a warmer climate and receives cooling breezes from the south on many hot summer days. Winemaking takes place on the Mt. Vernon estate, allowing them to produce custom wines such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The bold vision and passion for crafting exceptional, artisanal wines is something they are deeply committed to and live as a philosophy. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the region, they are inspired to produce award-winning wines from the humble grape to the bottle.
For every bottle sold, KapWeine transfers CHF 2 to the Swiss Board of Aid Organization and CHF 1 to the SAN Charity.

Swiss Board of Aid Projects
Every bottle helps create a more just and caring world, so that we all have the same opportunities. With every purchase of Rhino Tears, KapWeine donates CHF 2 to the organization for the development of projects in South Africa.

Support for Hospitals
The Swiss Board of Aid supports hospitals and outpatient clinics with various medical supplies, which are donated to the Swiss Board of Aid in Switzerland and then transported by us to South Africa. In urgent cases, they have also purchased medical supplies for a hospital. Furthermore, they also support renovations and adaptations of healthcare facilities. They have also twice been able to help a children's hospice, which takes in children rejected or removed from their parents, with urgently needed medical supplies.
Support for the Population
The Swiss Board of Aid supports the population in various ways. They sell donated clothes from Switzerland in poor residential areas for a minimal amount, so that poorer individuals can afford good clothing, especially for the very cold winter months. All proceeds from this are used for their projects. In exceptional situations, they also donate clothes to the population, for example to the poorest families or during the coronavirus pandemic. The Swiss Board of Aid regularly donates children's items and clothes to a local orphanage. Many items from their online shop are specifically purchased in South Africa to support the local population. For example, children's clothes with animal motifs from a youth center for unemployed young people in a very remote region, or bags made from African fabrics by a group of women with cancer.
iThemba Family
iThemba Family enables up to 4 children, who for various reasons cannot grow up with their biological family, to live in a harmonious family, receive an education, and, if necessary, medical care.
The children live with members of the Swiss Board of Aid in East London, South Africa, in a safe and loving family environment. It is important to the Swiss Board of Aid that the children receive a good education. This gives the children good opportunities in the job market later in life and allows them to become independent young adults.
