This Cape Bordeaux blend was awarded 93 points by Tim Atkin and named best wine out of 1,300 wines at the largest local wine competition, "Veritas". It has grown steadily in popularity with our customers over the years and is now our top seller.

The Spier Creative Block 5 is a symbiosis of five Bordeaux grape varieties. It captivates with its ruby red color. On the nose, it offers an impressive bouquet of blackberries, currants, and a gentle hint of cedarwood, paired with dark chocolate. The wine is spicy, lively on the palate, and offers great balance with its dense body and ripe, fine-grained tannins, leading to a long finish. The wine provides a truly beautiful drinking experience and is an excellent food companion! For several years now, Spier has been part of our KapWeine assortment and consistently offers very good wines with an excellent price-pleasure ratio. The sustained success, such as being named Winery of the Year 2022 (John Platter’s Wine Guide), as well as the steadily increasing quality of Spier wines, led us to crown the "Spier Creative Block 5 – 2018" as "Red Wine of the Year 2022". No wonder the farm has been recognized by a number of external organizations for its commitment to sustainability, ethical conduct, and social responsibility. Spier is a family-owned agricultural business with a long tradition. The estate was revived by Dick van Enthoven in 1993. In 2004, his daughter Mariota Enthoven and her husband Angus took over the management of the farm.

Creative Block 3 – 2018

For many years, Spier has been producing a range of excellent wines for every budget. The Creative Block wines impressively demonstrate that highly complex cuvées can result in very harmonious, elegant, and powerful wines.

The Spier Creative Block 3 2018 is a cuvée of three grape varieties: Shiraz, Mourvèdre, and Viognier. Deep red color with a youthful ruby rim and layers of aroma with subtle perfumed notes of violets, pomegranate, mulberries, as well as spicy aromas of black pepper and coriander. The wine offers density on the palate with complexity and silky tannins. The wine is complex and is already ready to drink.

For the 21 Gables line, the best vineyards are used for these top-end wines, resulting in highly complex, single-varietal wines. The Signature Range offers appealing wines for everyday needs in the entry-level segment. The Frans K. Smith is the "Flagship" blend, which is only bottled in small quantities and is considered one of the best wines in South Africa.

Spier is a prime example of ethical farming. Soil health, people, and careful production are paramount. Grapes are hand-picked, destemmed, and sorted. 100% of wastewater is recycled to irrigate 132ha of Spier's organic vineyards when needed.
