Constantia Glen
with Winemaker of the Year & two Platter 5-Stars
We are delighted to announce that our talented winemaker, Justin van Wyk, the wise head behind our Constantia Glen wines, has been named Diners Club Winemaker of the Year 2021 in recognition of our Constantia Glen FIVE 2017.
The Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award, now in its 41st year, is considered one of South Africa's most prestigious and respected wine competitions. This year's award honors the country's best winemaker producing a Bordeaux-style red blend, and we are very proud that Justin has won this title with our flagship red, Constantia Glen FIVE, from the outstanding 2017 vintage.
We asked Justin for a few comments: "I am deeply honored to be awarded the Diner's Club Winemaker of the Year 2021. When I heard that this year's category was Bordeaux-style red blends, I was very excited to submit our Constantia Glen FIVE. This wine has consistently performed well over the past few years, and there are many people working in the vineyards and cellar whom I deeply appreciate. It's an honor to work on such a phenomenal estate, which I believe is a near-perfect location for growing Bordeaux varieties in South Africa. I just feel very lucky to be the jockey on this truly good horse."
That's not all that has happened in the last week! We are also very pleased that both our Constantia Glen FIVE 2017 and our Constantia Glen TWO 2020 were awarded 5 stars and 96 points in the 2022 edition of Platter's South African Wine Guide, which was published on Friday, November 19th.
