De Trafford and Eagles' Nest in the Top 10
Our colleagues at SonntagsBlick wanted to know again and conducted an international comparison of the "Merlot" grape variety. In a blind tasting, 51 Merlots from all over the world competed against each other.
On December 17, 2023, the big Merlot blind tasting of SonntagsBlick took place. The judges, sommeliers, Masters of Wine, and journalists rated two South Africans with an excellent 17.52 points each, catapulting them into the Top 10.

Careful work in the vineyard and cellar results in a wine of bright ruby red color, pure, structured fruit, and enticingly firm yet flavorful tannins. As with all Eagles' Nest red wines, there is a subtle peppery spice that makes this wine distinctive. Aromas of mulberries, dark chocolate, and tobacco add further complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with balanced tannins and a concentrated, persistent mouthfeel.

Deep ruby red in the glass, with plums, dark cherries and cloves on the nose. On the palate, blackberries, leather and an herbaceous eucalyptus note.
