Prieska is the name of the new ward in the Northern Cape, established in 2016. Lowerland is located in this ward. In the Griqua language, Prieska means "place of the lost goat". This makes it clear why one of the Lowerland red wines is called "Die Verlore Bokooi" and prominently features a goat on its label. Prieska is situated 1000 meters above sea level on the banks of the Orange River, approximately 900 km from Stellenbosch. The area is characterized by dryness (sometimes too dry), with chilling nights and hot days, making it ideal for organic cultivation.
