Product Description:
This wine has an intense nose of dark berry fruit with a hint of allspice, black cardamom, clove and graphite. The compote of black plums, blackberries and currants of the nose follows through to a balanced mid-palate with vibrant notes of red plum, black cherry, green olive and violet on entry. The wine has a classic structure and a grippy texture with a hint of espresso, tar and star anise lingering on the finish.

Vinifikation Syrah thrives exceptionally well on the slate and decomposed dolomitic granite soils of the Swartland and has found its home in this warm, Mediterranean terroir at the foothills of Kasteelberg. The grapes for Patina come exclusively from our Goldmine Farm along the Riebeeks River. Although the drought in the Western Cape persisted, our fruit was harvested under ideal conditions, with small, concentrated berries yielding textbook analyses. We opted for a spontaneous whole-bunch fermentation in concrete vats to build structure and enhance the classic aromatics and complexity. The wine was aged in classic European barrels, 30% of which were Stockinger Demi-Muids, for 18 months.
