In the case of Kershaw's Elgin Syrah, the focus is on creating exquisite refinement coupled with consistent precision, built upon a foundation of harmonious fine tannins, incredible freshness, notes of inky black fruits, iodine, medicinal herbs, and black pepper. The SH22 clone produces fuller-bodied wines with intense color and fine structure – wines that tend to develop a more opulent and dense concentration due to the significantly lower yields of this clone, characterized by notes of dark black fruit, black pepper, and meaty tones.

Vinifikation Richard Kershaw's great passion and love for the South African Elgin region and noble grape varieties form both the inspiration and the basis of the Kershaw Deconstructed Syrah wine series, which consists of two different Syrah clones from two neighboring vineyards in the western part of the Elgin region. The Lake District Cartref SH22 Syrah is a vineyard parcel directly adjacent to clone 9C. Clone SH22 produces fuller-bodied wines with intense color and fine structure. The grapes for these first-class Syrahs were carefully hand-picked and sorted, and fully destemmed upon arrival at the winery. The berries were fermented in open-top fermenters, after which the wine matured for 15-18 months in barriques. The wine was not fined before bottling and only lightly filtered. Each bottle was given an individual identification number.
