The Helderberg area of Stellenbosch is well-known for producing some of South Africa’s best Cabernet Sauvignons. La Motte’s 2022 vintage is a complex wine combining intense berry and plum fruit with cloves and mint. Expect typical Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics such as cigar box and toffee from oak in the background. Abundant tannins and a full palate with an opulent consistency and lingering finish suggest exceptional aging potential.

Vinifikation All grapes are trellised vines and are located on the Helderberg, about 7 km from the coast of False Bay. The soil is a combination of weathered granite and shale with some patches of gravel. The soil is well-drained and has good water retention capacity. Sustainable farming methods include canopy management of the vineyards to ensure good ventilation and sufficient light. Destemming and sorting are carried out during harvesting in the vineyard. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks with two pump-overs per day. Pressing and filling of the barrels took place three weeks later. The wine matured for 16 months in 300-liter French oak barrels – 100% second fill. The different Cabernet Sauvignon batches were blended and filtered before being bottled in October 2022.
