Product Description:
Though based in Elgin, the up-front kick of white pepper and cardamom takes one straight to an Indian spice bazaar. Its complex combinations ebb and flow, with pretty floral notes transmuting into cherry, leather and bacon fat. On the palate, it shows red fruits followed by a spicy mid-palate, finishing with distinct white pepper. With its vibrant cool-climate acidity and its fine-grained tannin, it has the potential to become one of our longest-lived wines, so patient drinkers can expect to be handsomely rewarded.

Vinifikation
Vines within the same block can respond to their environment in unique ways, and No Place Like Home is an exploration of the variations that exist within a single vineyard. Using a blend of drone technology (with a near-infrared camera flying 80 meters above the vineyard) and good old-fashioned soil analysis, we identified four distinct areas within the 3-hectare plot and then harvested and fermented them separately before assembling them together. It was fascinating to observe all the micro-differences in a small site like ours and the extent to which each can influence the flavour profile. No Place Like Home is a careful blend of four distinctly different wines created from one 3-hectare block, and the result is the best expression of the vineyard’s complexity and intensity. As always, we let our grapes speak, making our wines simply yet carefully and with minimal intervention. Each of the four grapes was harvested separately and underwent spontaneous fermentation averaging two weeks, with 20% whole bunches and 1 to 2 pump-overs daily. After gentle pressing into tanks, they were transferred to neutral 228L French oak barrels, matured on lees over winter, and transferred again in spring before being returned to barrels, where they matured for a total of 16 months.
