Rust en Vrede's trademark: opulence meets restraint and elegance. In the bottle, Rust en Vrede's two single vineyards – Syrah (majority) and Cabernet Sauvignon – sing and dance together. The nose is rich with violets, black pepper, and fresh black cherries, which combine with leather, black olives, earth, and licorice on a second swirl. The 2016 is lighter than the 2015 and 2014, and that's a beautiful thing. The powerful palate matches the nose in intensity and depth, showing plush dark fruit and oak spice, commingling with rooibos tea, cured meat, and dried herbs. The Cabernet Sauvignon's immense tannic structure and the Syrah's fruit and spice ensure this wine will age beautifully over the next decade.

Vinifikation Named to commemorate Rust en Vrede's founding date, this is a somewhat unusual blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with the emphasis on the opulence of the Rust en Vrede Syrah. An exemplary combination of our two focus varieties. The grapes are selected from the two single vineyards of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, the oldest and best vines on the estate. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques and the wine was aged for 22 months in 300-litre French oak barrels, 50% of which were new wood.
