Product Description:
This 2023 Rotsbank bottling shows notes of flint and almost crushed oyster shells with grapefruit notes. The wine is incredibly concentrated in terms of aromatics, and the tannins have massive tension. The powerful acidity and dry finish suggest that the wine will only benefit from time in the bottle. It is one of the most linear expressions of the vintage. It’s a steely blue Chenin.

Vinifikation The Rotsbank vineyard is located on Aprilskoof on Paardeberg, on a rocky outcrop that in most places has barely more than 30-50cm of soil. It is incredible that the vines survive year after year. Many roots on the ground have cracks and restrict natural growth, but the vineyard produces incredibly concentrated grapes. Eben Sadie wanted to produce this Swartland Chenin Blanc since 2008, and with the 2022 vintage, he succeeded after having the good fortune to purchase this vineyard. After harvesting, the grapes are cooled and pressed as whole bunches for approximately 3 hours. After settling, the must is transferred to two old wooden barrels for fermentation and then spends 12 months on the lees.
