Vinifikation The Brandnetel offers a wonderfully palatable lesson in appreciating diverse terroirs, producing a straightforward expression that finishes with a light salinity derived from the mineral-rich soils. This small parcel is situated high on the cool slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. Originally planted in 1980 as a rootstock trial, it comprises no fewer than 32 different rootstocks. This curiosity yields a complex wine with remarkable tension and minerality. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, and the free-run juice was naturally fermented in old French oak barrels. The Brandnetel was then aged on its lees for 9 months and subsequently bottled unfiltered.
