Intense and perfumed with strawberry sorbet, white pepper and smoky fynbos on the nose. Layers of dark cassis and plum unfold in the glass with hints of graphite, tobacco leaf and sweet spice. The palate is polished and elegant, supported by silky tannins and a mineral finish.

Vinifikation A wine that is essentially feminine, powerful, influential and effortlessly refined. The D.W. Syrah is dedicated to the visionary who first founded the winery, Des Weedon, his wife Denise, the matriarch, and their grandson Derrick, who gave the estate its Latin name. Winter started late with warmer day and night temperatures and less rainfall than in the 2016 growing season. However, a warm spring led to early, uniform budburst. A cool but dry and windy November/December resulted in drier soils and small berries. January brought rain, with cool evening temperatures and moist soils, allowing our grapes to ripen more slowly. The Shiraz was aged for 16 months in 60% new French oak barrels.
