Product Description:
The nose is very expressive with citrus fruit, nuts and something herbaceous, like mint. The palate is very textured and intense, with layered flavours of Naartjie and bitter almond and a hint of mint. This is an exceptional wine with unusual depth and carrying capacity. The best Monument/La Colline for some years.

Vinifikation These magnificent old vines are farmed by father and son, Anton and Koos Roux, on their family farm, La Colline. They are direct descendants of Huguenot refugee Paul Roux, who arrived at the Cape in 1688. Anton’s grandfather planted the vineyard in 1936 on an elevated, south-facing slope overlooking the valley below. The block sits between 310m and 350m above sea level. The soil is predominantly granite with lots of quartz. Various shades of Sémillon grow together here: from emerald green to amber, pink and mauve. These genetic oddities are typical of the older Sémillon vineyards at the Cape and seem to be extinct in the rest of the world. This offers us the chance to make something uniquely Cape. Grapes are hand-picked, sorted and whole bunch pressed. The raw juice is settled overnight without any additions and then spontaneously fermented in old wooden barrels for approximately one month. The wine was kept on its primary lees in barrel for 18 months before being bottled without fining. Very simple, careful winemaking.
