Vinifikation Production of Cap Maritime wines began with the 2017 vintage. Initially, vineyards from the upper Hemel en Aarde Valley were used, but unfortunately, production from this area was not continued. The search for alternatives began, and in 2019, a suitable location was found in the Upper Hemel en Aarde Valley. The estate is situated 4km from the sea on the north-western side of the valley, offering views of the hills and the Bot River Lagoon. With the 2021 vintage, the opportunity arose to work with parcels from the Overberg and the Hemel en Aarde Ridge. On this occasion, the blend of these two appellations was classified as WO Cape South Coast, and the coastal wines were born. With these wines, winemaker Gottfried Mocke aims to bring a youthful accessibility while remaining true to the house style. His preference for emphasizing texture and aromatic characteristics is a hallmark of his wines. The Pinot Noir grapes were hand-picked and sorted into small crates before being transported to the winery in Franschhoek. There, a meticulous triage took place to ensure that only healthy grapes entered the fermentation tanks. The majority of the grapes were destemmed, leaving approximately 25% whole bunches. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine matured for another 12 months in French barriques.
