Vinifikation Danie and Hugo Carinus have taken a certain liberty in naming their wine label Carinus Family Vineyards, as they are only very distantly related. However, they are good friends and winegrowers who supply some of the country's leading producers from vineyards in Devon Valley, Polkadraai, and the Swartland. Their label has been around for several years, but in 2016, rising star Lukas van Loggerenberg was enticed to oversee production, with good results. Carinus Family Vineyards is what you get when you take some of the most sought-after grape growers in all of South Africa and combine them with the winemaking expertise of one of South Africa's most sought-after winemakers. A perfect combination of wine and amazing people. The grapes for this award-winning Chenin Blanc fermented "spontaneously" in concrete eggs. Spontaneous fermentation means that the fermentation was initiated without the addition of commercial yeasts. Exclusively "wild" yeast present in the natural environment and on the fruit initiated the fermentation process. 25% of the wine was aged in wood.
