Product Description:
A wine that follows in the full-bodied footsteps of the 2019, with cranberry, pomegranate, and bruised strawberries on the nose, as well as rose, rosemary, and fynbos. On the palate, it reveals a darker note with olive tapenade and soy, and a hint of grilled meat. The tannins are sleek but with a brawny, pine-needle grip that, along with a fresh acidity, provides structure.

Vinifikation Mabalel is named after a poem by the legendary South African polymath Eugene Marais, which tells the story of the eponymous daughter of a local chief, who was attacked by the crocodile Lalele while fetching water from the Limpopo River. The vineyard was established on the farm "Kaaimansgat" – the Crocodile Farm – and a river flows past the vineyards. The site is 700 m high and surrounded by dramatic mountains, whose peaks are often snow-capped in winter. Fermented only with natural yeasts and with 40% whole bunch fermentation. Total time in tank was 29 days with a 14-day post-fermentation maceration. The wine was then transferred to barrels (20% new) where it matured for 11 months.
