Vinifikation As with the 2017 Pinot Noir harvest, the 2018 vintage returned to the normal schedule we are accustomed to in Hemel-en-Aarde, with picking commencing in the first week of February. With extremely low yields and light bunches, coupled with tiny berries, 2018 promises to be an excellent vintage, with a little more perfume and opulence than 2017 - all in all, wines of balance, elegance and layered concentration, showing their sense of place. The Vrede Pinot Noir is sourced from a steep, north-east facing slope in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley with lean, stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld Shale soil. The Vrede was aged for 11 months in 25% new French oak barrels.
