Vinifikation The farm is located in the foothills of the Simonsberg in the Paarl region of the Western Cape and comprises a variety of slopes and terroirs. Of the 31 blocks currently planted, each is tended according to its own unique potential, respecting the vines' natural cycles. A vineyard program of five hectares per year is being implemented to reach a total of 60 hectares, planting harder rootstocks and new clonal selections of varieties. The 145-hectare property reverted to local ownership when Glen Carlou was purchased by a South African family consortium in 2016. While the management team has remained largely unchanged, the enthusiasm for the coming years is carried by the new winemaker, Johnnie Calitz. The grapes were harvested from 15 different plots and kept separate throughout the winemaking process. Each batch was fermented in Water-Bent® French barrels, with 25% allocated between the first, second, third, and fourth fill. Further barrel aging lasted 11 months.
