The hand-picked grapes for this assemblage were all vinified separately. The full-bodied palate is firmly structured with fine-grained tannins and a natural acidity that supports the combination of red and blackberry fruits. On the nose, soft spices and concentrated blackberry aromas mingle with classic Cabernet cigar box and red cherry notes.

Vinifikation The 145-hectare property reverted to local ownership when Glen Carlou was acquired by a South African family consortium in 2016. While the management team has largely remained unchanged, the enthusiasm for the coming years is fueled by our new winemaker, Johnnie Calitz. The wine was fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs. For better color and tannin extraction, the wine remained on the skins for an additional 2 weeks after fermentation. The Grand Classique then matured for 18 months in French barriques, 30% of which were new.
