Vinifikation
Van Loggerenberg Wines was founded by Lukas and his wife Roxanne with their first vintage in 2016. The 2019 vintage is the fourth release for Lukas – a rising star, Young Gun, and 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin. Lukas grew up in Rawsonville in the Breede River Valley and was always surrounded by vineyards and wine. His wines are produced in Devon Valley, and the grapes come from Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Swartland. Each wine and its name has a specific story behind it, and his wines have become extremely sought after. For us, life is all about camaraderie, about enjoying moments with the people closest to you. However, camaraderie is not only between friends but also between the farmer, the vineyard workers, and the vines, and about the final product being shared over a good meal among friends. Unirrigated bush vines planted in 1980 on decomposed granite soils on the western side of the Paardeberg. These old vines have adapted over time to survive and produce incredible grapes under these difficult growing conditions. These grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, and a wine was made that is very true to its terroir and its place. The grapes were destemmed, pressed, and stored overnight in stainless steel tanks. The wine was transferred into 500-liter French oak barrels the next morning and spent 10 months on the primary lees without any bâtonnage. No commercial yeasts or enzymes were used in the winemaking process.
