Vinifikation The Hoë-Steen vineyard was planted in 1968 west of Malmesbury towards Darling, with deep, red, iron and clay-rich soils. This block is late-ripening due to its south-facing slopes, and the vines were grafted onto rootstock using a "massale" selection method one year after planting. A few Cape Rieslings (Crouchen blanc), False Pedro, Palomino, Sémillon, and Clairette Blanche have since been discovered. The vineyard remains predominantly Steen for us, and we see it as part of the Cape's old vineyard history, which we are privileged to work with. At the very end of harvest, this 2-hectare vineyard was harvested in three passes, the grapes were hand-sorted, pressed as whole bunches, and aged for one year in old French oak barrels. The wine bears the Certified Heritage Vineyards (CHV) seal and is part of the Old Vine Project (OVP).
