Product Description:
Boysenberry and dark cherry dominate the inviting bouquet, with soft floral notes of violet and rose petals and a hint of exotic spice. The full-bodied black and red fruit of the bouquet continues with flavors of ripe plums, black currant, dried cranberry and blueberry. Slight hints of cured meat and espresso add complexity to the round, silky mid-palate. The mouth-filling texture of milk chocolate is balanced by fine, powdery tannins and a fresh, integrated acidity. The wine is medium-bodied, supple, and elegant with licorice and subtle notes of crushed coriander and black cardamom lingering on a smooth, mellow finish.

Vinifikation
The 2024 Chocolate Block is our 22nd vintage of this iconic wine and the first to utilise our new OXOline system in the renovated maturation cellar at the Helderberg winery. The cold winter resulted in a slow start to the 2023 growing season with budbreak 2-3 weeks later than usual. This delay continued into the late ripening period. Frequent rain showers ensured a lush canopy, protecting the grapes from sporadic sunburn during the hot December and heat spikes in January. Yields for this vintage were below average; the fruit was perfumed, aromatic and elegant with balanced tannins. Grapes are fermented as whole berries in a combination of concrete and stainless steel tanks. After spontaneous fermentation, we transferred the wine into used (95%) French barriques and 5% (for Cabernet Sauvignon) into new French barriques. Maturation ranged from 12-14 months, depending on the grape variety.
