Product Description:
The dynamic approach is fostered by combining French oak and terracotta amphorae for fermentation and maturation. This offers the opportunity to expose the wine to the best of two worlds: French oak barrels, allowing a broad and impressive expression of primary fruit, and amphorae for vibrancy, freshness, and texture. The premium Chardonnay fruit thrives in an innovative environment, unleashing multi-layered dimensions that allow the noble pedigree of the world's most famous white wine to shine through.

Vinifikation
The Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Chardonnay 2023 is crafted from two vineyard parcels in Stellenbosch that reflect the diverse terroir of the Cape's most renowned appellation. One portion originates from Banghoek, while the other is cultivated in the Sir Lowry's Pass region of Somerset-West. The inclusion of Chardonnay in the top-tier Family Reserve category underscores the status of Kleine Zalze’s entire wine portfolio, as this wine serves as an outstanding example of the world-class Chardonnays that South Africa, and Stellenbosch in particular, has to offer. The various blocks used to produce this wine were hand-harvested separately at a ripeness level between 21° and 23° Brix. A portion of the grapes was destemmed and pressed, and the resulting juice had 12 to 18 hours of skin contact before settling. The other portion was whole-bunch pressed to ensure optimal freshness and to impart finesse and elegance to the wine. After a one-day settling period, the lightly turbid juice was transferred to a stainless steel tank where it was inoculated with selected slow-fermenting yeast strains. The juice was then immediately transferred by gravity into new 400-liter French oak barrels and 500-liter Italian terracotta vessels, where it aged on its lees for eight months. The Chardonnay was bottled without fining or filtration.
