Vinifikation Van Loggerenberg Wines was founded in 2016 by Lukas and his wife Roxanne. The 2019 vintage is Lukas’ fourth release. Having grown up in Rawsonville, he produces his wines in Devon Valley using grapes from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Swartland. Each wine tells its own story. The name of this wine is a nod to the "leap of faith" Lukas took when starting his project – inspired by a jump from his youth. The wine is 87% from a vineyard planted in 1978 in the Firgrove area and 13% from South Africa's second oldest vineyard from 1932 in Franschhoek. Both plots are unirrigated, with soils consisting of decomposed granite and sandstone. 40% of the Firgrove grapes were fermented as whole bunches, the rest destemmed. After natural fermentation, malolactic fermentation took place in the barrel. After nine months in old French oak barrels, the wine was blended and bottled. The Cinsaut is bottled earlier to preserve its fresh fruit. No enzymes or commercial yeasts were used.
