The Bellevue Magazine
Recommends Pinotage from South Africa for grilling
We knew that South African wines are very well suited for summer festivities and grilling. There isn't a single barbecue/braai event where a wine from South Africa isn't to be found. The Bellevue Magazine from the NZZ, knows this and has therefore included De Grendel's Pinotage in the Top 5 wines for grilling.
According to the Bellevue Magazine issue of July 20, South Africa scores with its wines as follows: "Pinotage succeeds - or is unpalatable. Ideally, however, full-bodied, rich wines are produced. The cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault is often aged in small wooden barrels, such as the Pinotage Amandelboord 2020 from the De Grendel estate."
Not all South African wines mature in the same way, and not all have the same result. The Bellevue Magazine emphasizes: "The maturation of this wine takes place over a year in French and American barriques, a quarter of which are new. The powerful, well-structured wine can be served with barbecue chicken."
