Wineries:
Durbanville has been part of the established W.O. Cape Town since 2019. Durbanville is located approx. 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean and approx. 10 km from Cape Town City. As with Constantia, this is also a cooler climate growing area, which is responsible for more elegant wines and is ideal for crisp Sauvignon Blanc white wines. The vineyards are usually located on the hills of Durbanville and the Tygerberg Hills. The average temperature is a cool 19 degrees and the annual rainfall is 300 to 400 mm per m2.
There are many quality producers here. Smaller as well as larger ones, all show what is in the Tygerberg region. One could almost say there is little average from this fine wine region.
The higher altitudes consist of weathered red granite soils, while the lower altitudes are sandstone sediments from Table Mountain, both with good water retention capacity. All in all, these are the best conditions for fragrant Sauvignon Blancs and Chenin Blancs, but also good Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet are pressed here.
