De Trafford and Eagles’ Nest in the Top 10
Our colleagues from SonntagsBlick wanted to find out once again and undertook an international comparison of the «Merlot» grape variety. In the blind tasting, 51 Merlot wines from all over the world faced each other.
The SonntagsBlick’s big Merlot blind tasting took place on December the 17th, 2023. This time, the judges, sommeliers, Master of Wines and journalists awarded two South Africans an outstanding 17.52 points, catapulting them into the top 10.

Careful work in the vineyard and cellar results in a wine with a bright ruby color, pure, structured fruit and enticingly firm yet flavorful tannins. As with all Eagles’ Nest red wines, there is a subtle peppery spiciness that makes this wine both distinctive. Aromas of mulberry, dark chocolate and tobacco add further complexity. The palate is full and structured, with balanced tannins and a concentrated, lingering finish.

Deep ruby red in the glass, with plums, dark cherries and cloves on the nose. Blackberries, leather and a herbaceous eucalyptus note on the palate.
