Our client and President of SWISS HICKORY GOLF, Maurus Lauber, is a gourmet, loves golf, is a friend of South Africa and has worked in tourism for many years. The last time he travelled through South Africa on the Rovos Rail in 2022, he set himself a goal: «It should be possible to fill an entire train just with Swiss golfers and then visit the most beautiful golf courses as an exclusive extra trip across South Africa.» The trip will not take place until January 2025 – but after just a few weeks, almost all the compartments are fully booked.

Probably the most exclusive golf trip through South Africa
The journey in the nostalgic special train starts on 28.01.2025 in Pretoria. It passes the Kruger Park via Swaziland to Durban, further along the Drakensberg Mountains to Port Elizabeth and then along the Garden Route via Knysna to Cape Town, where the train arrives on 09.02.2025.
During the day, the focus is on golfing on the most beautiful golf courses in South Africa. The highlights include Leopard Creek and Fancort Links. The golf luggage travels from Pretoria to Cape Town in an extra bus – and is ready for the enjoyable round in the appropriate buggy on arrival at the golf courses.
In the evening and at night, the special train travels at a relaxed pace to the next destination. Drinks and snacks are served around the clock in the elegant saloon and observation cars. Dinner is enjoyed in the nostalgic dining cars – and afterwards the bar car invites you to a nightcap – or a lively party.
And the special thing about it: from departure in Pretoria to arrival in Cape Town, everything is included. 24 hours a day, all consumption on the train and on the golf courses – all green fees, transfers and sightseeing – even the laundry service on the train is included. That means thirteen days of pure pleasure.

Professional partners ensure realisation
The entire rail journey from Pretoria to Cape Town as well as the entire social activities en route with safari, golf and sightseeing are provided by the Rovos Rail event team. This also includes the entire culinary offer as well as the support en route. There is even a golf pro on board to ensure that everything goes smoothly on and off the golf course.
The coordination of the flights to Johannesburg and back from Cape Town will be handled by the travel professional ALPHA GOLFTOURS, who have requested contingents on all relevant flights.

Even though the trip was set up by the President of SWISS HICKORY GOLF, modern golfers and even non-golfers are also welcome. With the current bookings, two thirds of all participants are modern golfers.
