At the foot of the majestic Simonsberg, between Franschhoek and Paarl, lies one of South Africa's most beautiful places: Babylonstoren. Founded in 1692, the winery is one of the oldest in the Cape and one of the most vibrant. Here, tradition, nature, and craftsmanship meet in unique harmony.

The heart of the farm is its magnificent garden. Eight hectares full of fruit, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Everything that grows here is harvested, processed, and enjoyed. The History & Vision of Babel Wine
In 2011, the cellar team had an idea: to create a red wine that captures Babylonstoren in a bottle – honest, characterful, and with depth. Thus, Babel was born, named after the eponymous restaurant and inspired by the diversity that characterizes the farm.
Strength in Diversity
Babel wine unites seven grape varieties: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Pinotage. Each component is harvested, vinified, and tasted individually before finding its place in the final blend. The result: over 100 individual parcels that harmonise in one wine – precise, balanced, and expressive. This diversity is the heart of Babel – an interplay of grape varieties, soils, and vintages, recomposed year after year and unmistakably bearing the signature of Babylonstoren.
