Wineries:

The Paarl wine region is directly north of the Stellenbosch wine region. The Paarl district (650mm) includes the Wards Franschhoek (900mm) and Wellington (500mm), which are almost considered separate wine regions with their own Wine Route. The newest districts are Simonsberg-Paarl, located in the best area at the foot of Simonsberg, and Voor-Paardeberg.

Wellington is located directly next to Paarl. Most of the vineyards are located on the mountain slopes. Franschhoek is located in its own valley. The name Franschhoek (French Corner) is based on the immigration of French Huguenots who settled this area over 300 years ago. Hence the many French names of the wineries and the high-quality food culture with over 30 great restaurants in this area.

A total of over 17,000 ha of grapes are planted in this district. Approximately 30% are red varieties and 70% are white varieties. Paarl is located somewhat further inland, which results in an average summer temperature of 19-21 degrees Celsius. The temperatures in Franschhoek Valley are even somewhat warmer.
