Tip #39

How to recognize dry wine?

Why are there wines that are dry and why are others not? What is declared as dry wine does not always have to agree with one’s own sensibilities. So the wine labels can also deceive, because dry is not the same as dry. But what can you do if you want to be on the safe side? Use the following tip as support for your decision.

If the wine drives it to the tip of the tongue, this can be an indicator for drying wine. Above all, however, it depends on the residual sugar content. Here the following applies:

  • 4-9g/l is dry
  • 12-18g/l is semi-dry

Therefore always consult the label of the wine and study the values. And yes, there are of course wines which are known for their dryness.
