Wineries:
In Walker Bay, near Hermanus, there are already well-known wineries such as Hamilton Russell and Bouchard Finlayson. In the nearby "new" regions like Elgin and Bot River, mostly white grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are grown, similar to Walker Bay, in addition to the cool-climate loving Pinot Noir, and also some Pinotage and Merlot.
The reason for this is that these areas have very low average daily temperatures, and the mentioned varieties, which are distinct cool-climate types, therefore show their potential best here. Especially with Pinot Noir, the best results come from these regions. For this reason, many apple and fruit orchards have already given way to grapevines.
